Virtural Peer Review

The message Irania is trying to convey with her object is how nowadays detox diets seem to be very popular and healthy for that matter with all the fruit being shown in the woman’s hair but in reality that is not the case at all.  Detox diets seem to be very unhealthy for one’s body, if one eats or drinks just a certain thing for a period of time it can cause problems to your health. The media glamourizes these detox diets giving it a false impression on how incredible it is for one to put your body through a detox but Irania’s message is that they cannot be trusted and no one should put their body through these drastic conditions. I believe that the intended audience is a male or a female who are interested in losing weight and that want to get rid of all the bad toxins in their body.

Visual Rhetoric Assignment

Heaven vs. Hell
When creating this 3D model of what I felt best represents this experiment my immediate reaction was good vs. evil. So I figured, what better way to display this model with a heaven and hell concept. For starters, I used a mask that is placed in the center. I divided the mask in two separate sections both being equally spilt straight down the middle, left being heaven, right being hell. Each side of the mask is painted, left being a light blue while right being covered in bright red. On the edges of where both of these masks end are two Styrofoam objects that have been molded into a wing and a devils tail. For the heaven side the wing is once again painted a light blue but on top of that there are feathers that have a splash of glitter on the tips of the feathers, the feathers are scattered all across the molding of the Styrofoam giving it more of angel wing look. Once I constructed the devils tail I painted it a bright red, on the top on the tail there are little quotes that represent power, evil, etc. that are being held up with red pipe cleaners. Lastly, on the bottom of the mask where the nose is supposed to be there is a paper that has the number “8612”. The number is hand written in a bubble like font, the outline of the numbers is black and on the inside of the numbers are painted gold. The size of the 3D model is not too big, not too small just about a medium size. The tone of this model is supposed to be very serious since it is a heaven and hell concept I am working with. There are a few different textures when it comes to this model, the mask itself is soft and consistent, while the hell side, the devils tail is rough and bumpy due to the Styrofoam and the pipe cleaners are fuzzy and soft. Also, the heaven side is rather fluffy, delicate, and soft because of the feathers though once you hit the glitter on a few of the feathers it changes to a much more rugged feel.
The reason behind each of the materials I used to create this model where because for one, when I think of heaven and hell my mind goes to an angel with big white soft wings, rather then hell that seems to be scarier, rough, strong hence where the Styrofoam comes into play. I used the paint to distinguish which side is which and to make each side stand out more. I used the pipe cleaners to symbolize the power one can have when given full range and the quotes to show the audience where I stand on this prison experiment. The mask I used to represent the men who were assigned a role to play, and the numbers on the paper, which represents a man that was assigned that specific number during the experiment.

Movie Analysis 3/5

The films we watched in class were “Nosferatu” (1922), “The Shining” (1980), and “The Cojuring” (2013). Each of these films key components in creating a sense of terror was music. Music developed a sense of suspense, horror, and it even build up the anticipation on what will happen next in each one of these clips. Throughout the years music has grown to be louder, for example the louder the music gets in a scene one will figure out that something creepy is about to happen or pop out. In “Nosfertu” they definitely relied more on music than the other films being that it was a silent film.  Nonetheless, despite the time era the way each one of these films used music was very effective on creating a sense of terror.

Personally the film that I feel was the most effective was “The Conjuring”, sure it may not have been terribly scary, if anything it was more jumpy. However, the way the started it off one would think that “Okay, this isn’t too bad” but by the end of the movie one may be pretty shaken up. Music was definitely a factor in creating that sense of creepiness throughout the movie, for example when the old lady was on top of the dresser the music just seemed to grow louder and louder making one think holy crap, holy crap, holy crap what is going to happen next. Well for me at least. And again, one see’s the music build up when they are performing the exorcism, just making it be that much creepier then it already is. “The conjuring” took the creepiness/music aspect to a whole other level and that is why I personally feel that this film was the most effective in creating suspense and terror.

Peer Review Follow-Up Script

A) From reading one of my classmate’s genre analysis papers, I learned that there are several ways in formatting this particular assignment. For instance, my classmate’s paper that I read started off with an introduction of what their topic was about, what they were going to talk about, and wrapped it up nicely with a conclusion. They wrote it like an essay type assignment that flowed very nicely rather then mine which did not have an introduction but rather started off analyzing right away. I had sections of each particular text, and made clear distinctions by having a Part A and Part B. Each of these formats are very different from one another but they both would work very well in addressing the prompt for this assignment.
B) Something that my classmates mentioned to me is to include an introduction before I start off analyzing my topic right away. Another thing that they mentioned is to go into details about my examples and to fix some of the grammatical errors that I had throughout my paper. Overall, they stated that they enjoyed my topic.
C) I agree with the constructive criticism that I received back on my paper, I found their comments very helpful. Without a doubt I will use their feedback when I am writing my second rough draft, I feel that the introduction section clearly flew over my head when writing this paper. However, if I do go more into depth on explaining my examples that I used and fixing the few grammatical errors that I had I believe that next time around my classmates would find it a more interesting and an understandable read all around.

Response Paper 1

The name of the movie that I watched was Pride and Prejudice that is directed by Joe Wright. The reason as to why I choose this specific movie is because my oldest sister Angelica and I wanted to have a movie night so we decided on watching this movie together. The message behind this movie is that love conquers all no matter what social class one may fall in and; the title alone “Pride and Prejudice” best suits the description of the two main characters in this movie, Miss Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Both Ms.Bennet and Mr. Darcy’s characters claim to be entirely different and loathe one another because Mr.Darcy is prideful and comes off as a snob while Ms.Bennet is prejudice against Mr.Darcy because of how prideful he is and her first impression of him was that he was a stiff neck. However, as time passes by Ms.Bennet overcomes her prejudice views on Mr.Darcy and falls in love with the person he truly is. Some of the major events that happen throughout this movie are when Mr. Bingley holds a ball in which Mr. Darcy is first acquainted with the Bennet family and that is when Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy first meet. Another major event in this movie is when Mr. Darcy expresses his love for Ms.Bennet and asks her for her hand in marriage, sadly Ms. Bennet rejects his offer. Lastly, when Mr. Darcy writes a letter to Elizabeth explaining everything to her, Elizabeth then see’s his true colors and that everything he did was for her as well as her family, Mr. Darcy proposes to Ms. Bennet at the end of the movie and this time she greatly accepts his hand in marriage.
I believe that this movie relates to my own personal experience because the man I love(d) is entirely different from how I carry myself as a person. In this case I am Ms. Bennet and he is Mr. Darcy, both stubborn and collide with one another.  However, just like Ms. Bennet is drawn to Mr. Darcy, I cannot help but be in love with my Mr. Darcy. I often watch these types of movies a lot because I love everything about love, if that makes sense. I am a hopeless romantic that still believes in chivalry so I enjoy watching these types of film often. In my opinion I believe that Joe Wright directed this movie very well because it captures my attention right away from how two people can be from different cultures and social class but still at the end of the day love conquers all and that is why I love the message behind this film.
