Shitty First Drafts
Summary
Anne Lamott
first begins this reading with how writers are not perfect when they first
write a paper. Lamott explains that even though one’s first draft may be
horrible, it is necessary for one to write a “shitty” first draft in order to
better themselves as writers. In the first few pages one may write useless
information, however it is because of these unnecessary descriptions that lead
us to writing our second draft, and so on and so forth. Lamott then goes on to
say that the second draft is meant for fixing up all the errors made in the
first draft as well as taking out all the pieces that you loved the most. By
doing this Lamott see’s the true vision on how she actually wants to write her
first draft to be that eventually will lead the writer making a third draft.
Anne Lammot states that the last and final draft is meant to make sure that you
paper is perfection, or as close to perfection it can be.
